Featured Presentation

Take a Bite Out of Poor Performance by Installing SQL Server 2019

Speaker: Greg Larsen, DBA G. A. Larsen Consulting

Summary: In this presentation Greg will discuss some of the new features that were added to SQL Server 2019. Some of these new feature should take a bite out of the slow performance for some of your existing queries with no code changes. He will start off by discussing the Intelligent Query Processing feature of SQL Server and what was introduced in SQL Server 2019. The new features he will be discussing is: Row Mode, Table Variable Deferred Compensation, Approximate Count Distinct, Batch Mode on Row Store and User Defined Function Scalar Inlining. In addition, Greg will a be talking about Accelerated Database Recovery and Pausing/Resuming TDE that were also added in SQL Server 2019. These features should help reduce database contention issues you might have when performing database recovery or encrypting on your database. By attending this session you will learn about these exciting new features and how they can improve your query performance and database contention issues. You might find these new features provide you some compelling reasons to jump right to SQL Server 2019 instead of migrating to SQL Server 2017.

About Greg: Greg Larsen has been working with SQL Server since 1999. He has authored 100's of articles related to SQL Server. He holds a MCSE Data Management and Analytics. Greg also a SQL Server Consultant, adjunct professor and technical writer.

Call for Speakers

Peter Palka is trying to put together a 6 month calendar of speakers and topics. Peter would like to start having two presentations per meeting. One topic could be a short 15 minute presentation and then the other could be a 60-90 minute topic.

If you have done something you think is noteworthy that others could benefit from, Peter would like to hear from you. He is willing to help you turn any ideas you have into a presentation. OASSUG is a user group, provided and supported by local area SQL Server users.

Remember you don’t have to do a full-blown 90 minute presentation; even just a short presentation would be a great way to support our local SQL Server user group.
