Featured Presentation

Change Tracking in SQL for COTS Databases

Speaker: Zap Riecken, Senior DBA Washington State Employees Credit Union

Summary: Most of us manage databases where we aren’t allowed to make modifications to the database, which makes tracking changes to data significantly more complex. Learn how to create an external function which will give you the ability to quickly find changes and how to use this for “triggers”, data warehousing (lite), and data deltas.

About Zap: Zap Riecken started as a Database Administrator in the same manner as most of us - he was standing to close to the servers when a DBA was needed. He raced to get his MCDBA back in 1999 and has grown the process of managing ones and zeros into a career. He is a semi-regular presenter at Olympia’s local PASS group and can often be found playing some form of a board game.

Azure DevOps and Database lifecycle

Speaker: Piotr Palka, Senior Data Quality Engineer Washington State Employees Credit Union

Summary: We will look into Azure DevOps pipelines and learn how we can utilize SQL Server Data Tools to manage lifecycle of database objects. Session will cover basic rules for managing tables, views and stored procedures in SSDT project and storing them in Azure DevOps Repositories. We will also use Azure DevOps Pipelines for our Continuous Integration Test environment and approval workflow for production Deployments.

About Piotr: Piotr Palka is a Senior Business Intelligence Architect with more than seventeen years of experience in the Information Technology and Telecommunication industries. Adept as a team leader, system analyst, consultant, developer and project manager. Speaker at SQL Server events around the NW region.

Call for Speakers

Peter Palka is trying to put together a 6 month calendar of speakers and topics. Peter would like to start having two presentations per meeting. One topic could be a short 15 minute presentation and then the other could be a 60-90 minute topic.

If you have done something you think is noteworthy that others could benefit from, Peter would like to hear from you. He is willing to help you turn any ideas you have into a presentation. OASSUG is a user group, provided and supported by local area SQL Server users.

Remember you don’t have to do a full-blown 90 minute presentation; even just a short presentation would be a great way to support our local SQL Server user group.
