Olympia Area SQL Server User group meeting

Featured Presentation

Using SQL Audit for meeting Compliance Needs

Speaker: Mike Ray Microsoft

Summary: Many organizations want to know who is reading or changing their data. This has become more important in a post-Snowden world for some government customers. SQL Server introduced native auditing capabilities in SQL 2008 and it was extended in SQL 2012. Based on extended events, SQL Audit provides a way to track who is accessing your data, when, and how. This replaces the trace based audit, and provides some careful engineering to get the right information from your audit. The presentation will explain what audit is, demonstrate an audit specification, and show how to read an audit.

About Mike: Mike has been with Microsoft for 13 years. Mike worked on the SQL Server Books Online team as a technical writer, at MSN and Bing as a database engineer, as a consultant in the US Public Sector organization, and most recently as a Premier Field Engineer. Mike is interested in helping companies bridge the gap between having data and knowing the state of their business. Mike also supported customers in Europe, the Middle East, and around the US. Mike is looking forward to participating in the community.

Call for Speakers

Peter Palka is trying to put together a 6 month calendar of speakers and topics. Peter would like to start having two presentations per meeting. One topic could be a short 15 minute presentation and then the other could be a 60-90 minute topic.

If you have done something you think is noteworthy that others could benefit from, Peter would like to hear from you. He is willing to help you turn any ideas you have into a presentation. OASSUG is a user group, provided and supported by local area SQL Server users.

Remember you don’t have to do a full-blown 90 minute presentation; even just a short presentation would be a great way to support our local SQL Server user group.
