Overview of Microsoft SQL Server Security

Speaker: Gary Manley

Summary: Laying the foundation for SQL Server security can be confusing. SQL Server 2016 has many tools to enable the process such as auditing tools, always on encryption, and row-level security. These new features increase security by making it easier for DBAs to identify necessary solutions.

About Gary: Gary Manley is a seasoned security professional. He spent 8 years analyzing threats and vulnerabilities around the world as an Intelligence Officer in the US Army. Later in Gary's career he transitioned to Microsoft SQL Server and Data Analytics. He currently works as an Assistant Adjunct Professor at the University of Maryland University College teaching Information Systems Management classes. Gary has a Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems from Washington State University and a Master's in Cybersecurity and Leadership from the University of Washington-Tacoma and currently resides in the Olympia area.

Call for Speakers

Peter Palka is trying to put together a 6 month calendar of speakers and topics. Peter would like to start having two presentations per meeting. One topic could be a short 15 minute presentation and then the other could be a 60-90 minute topic.

If you have done something you think is noteworthy that others could benefit from, Peter would like to hear from you. He is willing to help you turn any ideas you have into a presentation. OASSUG is a user group, provided and supported by local area SQL Server users.

Remember you don’t have to do a full-blown 90 minute presentation; even just a short presentation would be a great way to support our local SQL Server user group.
