Moving Data to the Cloud

Speaker: Daren Child

Summary: In this presentation, we will discuss the different causes for moving data and demonstrate several solutions to move data from one environment to another. If anyone wants to follow along they will need SQL Server Management Studio, Local SQL Server and access to download a few tools as well as access to a Azure Account.

About Daren: Daren Child is a Seasoned Data Architect, he has embraced many data platforms throughout his career including his early involvement in the Human Genome Project. Later in Daren’s career he made a platform change to Microsoft SQL Server and had Data Architecture roles in World Class Organizations such as Vertical Data Architect for First American, Enterprise Data Architect at Credit Suisse, and Senior Data Architect at Waterford Research. Daren has expertise in tuning and optimization of high volume complex OLTPs and designing complex ETL based data flows. Daren has modeled and designed over 10 major OLTPs and lead the design of 4 Data warehouses. Last year Daren was selected to join the Microsoft Customer Success Unit as one of the 2 Data Platform Solutions Architects. He now supports Government Agencies across the West and Midwest with information, Proof of Concepts and training around the Microsoft Data Services.

Call for Speakers

Peter Palka is trying to put together a 6 month calendar of speakers and topics. Peter would like to start having two presentations per meeting. One topic could be a short 15 minute presentation and then the other could be a 60-90 minute topic. 

 If you have done something you think is noteworthy that others could benefit from, Peter would like to hear from you. He is willing to help you turn any ideas you have into a presentation. OASSUG is a user group, provided and supported by local area SQL Server users.

  Remember you don’t have to do a full-blown 90 minute presentation; even just a short presentation would be a great way to support our local SQL Server user group.
