T-SQL meet my friend PowerShell

Speaker: Eric Dycus

Summary: For many years, we have heard that we have needed to learn PowerShell. You might be asking yourself “I have always thought that T-SQL would do everything that I need it to do, so why do I need to learn this? We will answer that question and also discover how Microsoft has made PowerShell a tool that we all need to have in our tool box along with T-SQL. We will also review some of the more common PowerShell screens that we have all seen related to PowerShell and SQL. We will also take a look at the more common DBA tasks to see which is better?... PowerShell or T-SQL …or both? We will also identify PowerShell’s strengths and weaknesses as compared to T-SQL. We will review some of the more common DBA tools that can help make your life easier. Lastly, we will work through a demo on a inventory program that is written in PowerShell and go over some of the basic troubleshooting techniques with PowerShell ISE. Join me for a Three Stooges themed presentation of SQL and PowerShell.

Call for Speakers

Greg Larsen is trying to put together a 6 month calendar of speakers and topics. Greg would like to start having two presentations per meeting. One topic could be a short 15 minute presentation and then the other could be a 60-90 minute topic.

If you have done something you think is noteworthy that others could benefit from, Greg would like to hear from you. Greg is willing to help you turn any ideas you have into a presentation. OASSUG is a user group, provided and supported by local area SQL Server users.

Remember you don’t have to do a full-blown 90 minute presentation; even just a short presentation would be a great way to support our local SQL Server user group.
