Featured Presentation

T-SQL and Dynamic T-SQL in the Real World.

Speaker: Mat Jackmond, President The Rules Guys

Summary: The Rules Guys develops and sells to Fire Departments nationwide a suite of programs that help Fire Departments to control their Data Input – promoting better data quality, and deploys a Reporting Data Warehouse for Fire Departments to analyze their data using Excel Pivot Tables. We have chosen this approach because most Fire Agencies are “resource poor” and do not enjoy much IT support in their Data Analysis needs; most utilize “data savvy personnel” that they have on staff and need to use the “lowest common denominator” – SQL Server Standard. This limitation drives the basis of our platform; most of our work is done leveraging the power of T-SQL, Stored Procedures and SQL Jobs. We will tailor this demonstration on some of the basics of what we do that may be applicable to in-house developers, with some Q&A about how we do what we do with SQL. We’ll also look at some basic ways that Dynamic SQL can help make queries easier in SQL Server.

About Mat: Mat Jackmond is a co-founder and President of The Rules Guys, providing SQL Tools to Fire Departments for Data Validation and Data Analysis (the “Poor Man’s Solution”). The Rules Guys has been in business for 11 years and has over 100 Fire Departments across the US as customers. Mat is a former Renton Firefighter and SQL Server/PASS enthusiast.

Call for Speakers

Greg Larsen is trying to put together a 6 month calendar of speakers and topics. Greg would like to start having two presentations per meeting. One topic could be a short 15 minute presentation and then the other could be a 60-90 minute topic.

If you have done something you think is noteworthy that others could benefit from, Greg would like to hear from you. Greg is willing to help you turn any ideas you have into a presentation. OASSUG is a user group, provided and supported by local area SQL Server users.

Remember you don’t have to do a full-blown 90 minute presentation; even just a short presentation would be a great way to support our local SQL Server user group.
